About Us
Old South Hunting Retriever Club was founded in 1991 by six founding members: Scott and Jane Tucker, Phillip Freeman, Tim Summers, Jerry Day, and Mike Crowe. The club had twelve to fifteen charter members who contributed $100 each to initiate the club’s first account. Phillip Freeman was the first President and his wife Carol the first Secretary/Treasurer. Phillip remained President until his passing on October 10, 1999. Phillip Freeman was a driving force behind Old South and in honor of his dedication and contribution to the club, the Phillip Freeman Scholarship was created. Annually, OSHRC awards a $1500 scholarship to a deserving college student. The first OSHRC Hunt test was run at Rum Creek WMA in Forsyth Georgia and the club hosted the Grand for the first time in 1996. OSHRC has become one of the largest and most successful HRC clubs through the leadership and commitment of its past and present officers, board members, volunteers and members. Old South HRC is committed to the preservation of this great sport and the awesome animals we are hopelessly devoted to as well as introducing people to HRC retriever hunt tests, dog training and handling.
